Edgware Road: A Street of Recipes and Resistance
Edgware Road isn’t just a place to eat — it’s a place to remember. From late-night shawarma to homemade desserts passed between shopfronts, food has always been central to how this street feels like home to so many. Every dish tells a story: of migration, of belonging, of resilience, and of how people carry culture through flavour.
Recipes have long been a way for people to preserve heritage — carried across borders, passed down through generations, and shared between neighbours. Whether written on paper or held in memory, they offer a way to hold on to home, wherever home might be.
In this special event by Hekayyatna, we invite you to gather at Shubbak Corner around the table for an evening of storytelling, activities, and shared reflection. We’ll explore how recipes act as personal and collective archives, how food helps shape identity, and how the meals we remember might guide the future we want to build for ourselves and for the street.
This event is in collaboration with The Portman Estate.
Shubbak Corner is sponsored by The Portman Estate as part of Shubbak Festival 2025.
