Join afikra | عفكرة and the Shubbak Festival for an extraordinary evening dedicated to reframing, reclaiming, and challenging our own conceptions of what the Arab world was, is, and might be. This unique event delves into the rich histories and dynamic contemporary narratives of the region through a series of captivating, thought-provoking talks.

Hosted by Mikey Muhanna, founder of afikra and host of the afikra podcast, our stage will feature an incredible lineup of leading cultural voices: Nadir Nahdi, Alia Alzougbi, Deana Soni, Nasser Shorbaji, Moudhy Al-Rashid, Dinan Alasad, and Selma Dabbagh. Each speaker will present a concise 10-minute talk, exploring diverse subjects that range from food, ancient history, and literature to music, arts, conflict, and justice, and much more. Expect a dynamic range of perspectives – thought-provoking, nerdy, emotional, light, and heavy – all designed to spark meaningful dialogue and foster a deeper, more nuanced understanding.
