Showcased in the lightbox of Lower Stable street in Kings Cross, Talking Textures is an analogue photography series exploring the relationship between beauty, identity, and cultural heritage.

Through her experiences at high-end fashion shoots and London Fashion Week 2023, Yasemin felt compelled to challenge Eurocentric norms and carve out space for SWANA hair in the industry.

This project is more than an exhibition—it is a movement. Talking Textures encourages authentic self-expression, challenges existing power structures that police beauty, and provides a safe space for individuals navigating their hair journey. By addressing internalized shame and societal pressures, it fosters a collective rethinking of beauty standards and empowers SWANA individuals to reclaim their narratives.By blending photography, storytelling, and cultural discourse, Talking Textures ensures that SWANA hair is not only represented but celebrated—proving that hair is more than aesthetic; it is identity, history, and resilience.
